The American Dream is Norwegian

"Culture for growth" was the theme for Innovasjonstalen (The Innovation Speech) 2019. We will take our part of the responsibility and invite you to join us on the journey.

NTNU Professor, Ragnar Torvik, CEO and investor in Idékapital, Anders Brandt, Innovation Norway by Håkon Haugli and Minister of Trade and Industry, Torbjørn Røe Isaksen, all agree on the following; We need to think bigger. Go all in. We must build a culture for growth. Sustainability was not on the agenda, as that is a matter of course.

Norway is one of best countries in the world to live and work in. Our reputation globally is good — omni-political, economically, technological, environmental and socio-political. Norwegian companies have the best prerequisites for succeeding, and our trust-based culture makes us effective and quality conscious. We have an important responsibility and plenty of opportunities. I want my children and grandchildren to grow up in a sustainable society with a culture for growth. A proud, brave, visible, humble and honest culture with the ability to listen to each other.

Our trust-based culture makes us effective and quality conscious.

In 2012, the British magazine The Economist, concluded that The American Dream is closer to reality in Norway, rather than in The US — one of the main points in the lecture from CEO of Innovation Norway, Håkon Haugli.

From entrepreneurial faze to growth

“We have to think bigger and we have to facilitate for moving from an entrepreneurial faze to a growth faze” — an important message from Minister of Trade and Industry, Torbjørn Røe Isaksen, in the same conference.

Norway has a lot of amazing businesses. We are ahead of the game and we have several world-leading technologies and services in many areas. But we are not visible enough. We need a stronger and clearer strategic foundation, we need to make bigger investments in the market and we need to have a long term plan with our marketing activities.

We know how important it is to have a simple, easy understandable and functional concept. Something everyone can understand, be passionate about and strive for. Our businesses have unique possibilities. Take them! Get started! And start from the inside!

We have a lot to learn from our good neighbours. Sweden, Denmark and Finland are all far ahead of us when it comes to building solid, global brands. As a country of great reputation globally, Norway has a unique possibility to build brands that can lean on The Norwegian Way or NorWay. Look to what Switzerland has achieved with a clear focus on solidity and quality — Swiss made.

Strategic mandate

The most important condition for building a culture of growth and a strong brand is to develop and manage the whole business from a simple and clear strategic mandate. The mandate affects all decisions within development, delivery, sales and marketing.

We know how important it is to have a simple, easy understandable and functional concept. Something everyone can understand, be passionate about and strive for. Our businesses have unique possibilities. Take them! Get started! And start from the inside!
