Don’t quit wheel you’re ahead

Covid-19, 27.03.20. A full stop for some. Others feeling the incline up a steep hill. And there are those parking their bicycle in the garage waiting for sunshine and clean roads.

The Norwegian businesses are now allowed to furlough its staff with only two days warning. Isn’t this a clear message to look for new possibilities to keep the wheels rolling for as long as possible? If you manage to find new ways you will get noticed. Both the creativity and will to change will infect both clients and partners.

I fear that many “we better be safe”-measures paralyze both employers and employees. Instead of mobilizing, people are being furloughed. Before the fire starts, they unknowingly add fuel to the fire so there’s no way back.

Something magical happens. The team spirit and the relations with our clients and partners grow stronger. And the word purpose feels more real than ever.

When the government call for dugnad (a Norwegian saying about teamwork), they must rather mean more than isolating yourself at home and watch the rescue packages being presented? The reason behind the dugnad is to save lives, not only people’s lives but the lives of businesses — employers, employees, clients, partners and suppliers. It takes care, work morals and creativity, a will to cooperate and a will to change. All of this is very hard to find when waiting in line for government allowances.

I’m really proud of the agency I work in. The fact that the management have chosen to keep going instead of demobilizing does something to our team. Something magical. The team spirit and the relations with our clients and partners grow stronger. And the word purpose feels more real than ever.

Many of our ongoing projects are either scaled down, been stopped or put on hold — and yes, it’s critical. We all now that we might get furloughed, but the message is to keep the wheels rolling for as long as we can. This creates a desire and will to work — which is a lot more contagious than Covid-19.

But it keeps you out of bed.
